Default 1g 2000nt / 2.4 liter swap ?

We are endurance racing (7 to 8 hours a day for two days) a 1g 2000nt and it needs a little more power but with reliability. We have been told that there is a 2.4 engine (sohc) that can accept our 2.0 dohc head and the unit as a whole can then be bolted into the car. The benifits would be obvious (compression and displacement primarily). That sounds better than all the plumming and potential unreliability of the turbo setup for the long haul. Does anyone know anything about this or am I dreaming ? I am a competent mechanic so I understand some of the potential pitfalls of something like this but sure don't want to find about any of them the hard way ! years, models, vans, anything to stay away from ? Any info would be helpfull and apreciated. Thanks for listening.
