yes, i noticed that TheEngineer, thats why i changed and agreed it might be the turbo, i thought he said it was running bad before 4k then good after 4k, and he did, but then he said that thats only in neutral, but in gear it was running bad after 4k and good before 4k... can you see where i was confused?

 

if the turbo is bad it just smokes like hell and makes alot of noise.
now if theres an intake leak before the MAF, or boost leak after the turbo, that will cause that, or low fuel pressure, bad MAF, spark plugs, clogged cat, plugged fuel filter, stuck blowoff valve,bad computer,
just by how he describes it im still guesssing a leak between the MAF and turbo inlet.
that cased idle surging, lean idle, woudlnt free rev for **** and leaned out & died under load ona car i fixed once. if you put the crank mark to 0, then the cam marks are on, then youve correctly checked the cam timing,.
you might want to use a timing light and check theignition timing just for somethin to do.

 

the only way it's leaking between the maf and turbo would be the blow off valve. i checked the ignition timing too, it's good. turbo is in the mail. pulled one plug, it was good, compression 150 lbs.

supposedly the computer has blown a couple times, it's got a brand new one in it with 10? minutes run time. i thought when they went bad they didn't run at all. has a new(used) engineharness in a box too, but i checked the one on the car and couldn't find any problems with it.

 

lol i dunno, hard for me to tell on here, i could track it down if i was there to mess with it.

 

how do i check the codes? i read one way cycling the key 5 times and watch the check engine light but it didn't ever flash any codes

 

thats only on 95+ OBDII.. i didnt know mitsu cars did that, i thought it was only dodge. never owned one though

search Vfaq.com on how to read the codes, it gets a little involved in the 1st gen cars.

changed turbo, still no good boost but did reach 7 lbs, and it ran like junk.

got back and checked for fire, cylinders 2/3 dead. I checked the coils and they checked good, checked for pulse and coil 1/4 is getting the negative pulse like it should but coil 2/3 isn't getting pulse.

any moreideas? btw, no codes that I could find, but the scanner only went back to 91 so I'm not absolutely sure about that. the build date is march of 1990

 

could the ignition module/power transistor do this maybe?
