Default engine swap

I'm new to this board and the tuner cars. But here goes.. My son and I bought a 94 eclipse with a blown up 1.8 na 5sp trans 2wd. my ?? is, he totaled out a 93 talon 2.0 na 5sp 2wd. and I'm wondering 1) is this a possible swap? and if it is possible any advice would be greatly appreciated.. I'm not new to swapping engines however this will be my first front wheel drive swap.

Thanks Mike

Sorry to be a bother if this question gets asked alot

yes this is a very possible swap. the 90-94 eclipse, laser, and talon all run on basically the same motor. keep in mind it will be difficult. im not sure how hard if the new engine also wont have turbo though..i have a 92 eclipse 1.8 and i was told not to do the swap because its expensive but if you already have the other motor i dont see why not. also im not sure if you could use the 1.8l tranny you might have to change it..it might not be strong enough

It actually depends. is the 2.0 a chrysler 420a, or a non turbo mitsubishi 4g63?

If the motor in the totaled car is a chrysler motor, it should swap right over, but if its the mitsubishi, its not possible.

Well, the 1.8L is a good indication that you have a 4g37. That's the only 1.8L motor that came with the 1Gs.
Here's a 4g37.

ummm 420a's didnt come in the 1g's

Its definetly something that has been done, and can be. Your gonna need the the engine and tranny out of the 2.0L and the ECU. While your at it i would use all the wiring too. It will just make it alot easier in the long run

well out the top with a cherry picker if you can get one. Or i have known people to pull an engine with three people. But id imagine that to be a PITA. But you cant drop it, you have to have it dome out from the top

ok out the top it will be i've been out in the garage looking at it and it appears they will come out together ok.. also I will have to use the eagle harness the 4g63 in it has more hook ups than the 1.8 had. alot more work than i wanted to do but I figure this way maybe my son will appreciate this car a little more and were spending time together. I'll keep ya posted on how it goes.

Thanks Again
Mike

oh wait a sec. I misread your post a bit. I thought it just said how to get the engine out. You can drop the tranny down first and then lift the block out the top. That would be a posibility. I think you can pull them together too. So i guess its up to you
