idle problem

well im new to this forum, and these cars, but i just got a 91 laser, 2.0 dohc, non turbo. when you first turn the car on, the idle is fine. after it warms up a little bit, the idle wil jump up and down bettween liek 400 and 800. when you tap the gas it goes way up stays there for a few seconds then drops and starts jumping again. if i drive it somewhere and the car heats up all the way, and turn it off, if i dont let it cool all the way down for like a half hour it is almost impossible to start, and i have to hit the gas a lot to start it. anyone have any clue?

RE: idle problem

Most likely the ISC motor.

RE: idle problem

iagree. Thats probably the issue. I would also clean out your throttle body as well.

RE: idle problem

I have a 92 Eagle Talon 2.0 DOHC Non-Turbo, and mine, when you first start it, it'll idle up to about 3200 RPM, then drop down to about 1200 and keep surging from 1200 to 1500 RPM when in idle. Is my problem the same as his do you think? and what does a ISC stand for? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

RE: idle problem

Yup sounds like the same problem. The ISC is the idle control motor, bolted to the throttle body with 2 8mm bolts. Also has a electrical connection.

Thanks, I'll be sure to have that checked.

Oh, just outta curiousity, how would you go about cleaning out the throttle body?

RE: idle problem

you should all check that the rubber boot between the turbo and airflow sensor is not cracked and leaking, my car surged like that when i had a leak.
