Break-in?! Drive it like you would normally it...that's the break-in. Done it to my 4g63 after it was rebuilt, did it to my wife's minivan after we bought it new, did it to my 6g72 when it was new. I had one oil leak in the 6g72 and that was the valve rear valve cover and it still purred after 125000 miles with no leaks, clanks, or clunks. My wife babied her 6g73 and that thing acted up on her a lot and it sounded worse than my car and hers was a few years newer than my car.
Babying it won't help the rings seat right. If it's going to break, break it while the warranty is still new, not close to it's end date.

TE even has this in the stickys. However, it is your money and motor, so do as you will. I'm just a firm believer in driving a new motor like I would drive it 5 years from now. That's my .02

 

Ya, but you dont realize.. When you put the motor together yourself... You are the warranty. So when it breaks b/c you redlined it the first day out and didnt break in the parts the money is coming straight out of your pocket.. When you buy anything new they will tell you to break it in.. I made the mistake of running my 4wheeler hard when I first got it, and I ended up fixing the motor within 800 Miles of having it.. I wish I would have just broke it in and avoided that[X(]

Up to you, but if you dont want to fix it within a year of putting it in I would take it easy for a couple hundred miles..

I have never heard of that before.. Mayb if its your car you just bought brand new from the dealer... But I cant imagine you would want to put your motor through that much stress with brand new parts in it..

Turbo Engines run Hot! I cant imagine he is talking about a 4g63 motor...

 

He is talkin about motorcycle engines... but they are all 4 stroke... so the process is the same.

All that means is that you have to break it in FAST before the fine honing pattern is gone

 

just remember if you built it right it wont blow up no matter how you run it
run it hard, just dont run it high RPM for long times and it'll be fine.
my 420a survived 15 minute initial run, then it went straight on the track. 4500-7200 lap after lap.

 

well i talked to david, the owner of buschur and he said " if it were at my shop, i would but it on the dyno" so no break in and i can beat the crap out of it. will I? to an extent, im not going to bounce it off the rev limiter but ill get it up there a little bit.

 

You dont have to bounce off the rev limiter.. just do some 3rd gear pulls from low RPM to like 7k or something.. and let the engine decelerate on its own... and when its back low... do it again.
