i understand that much...but i dont know if there is a determining vin difference, or if the after-92.5 had a different engine code in the vin.

i decoded the vin, and i have found out everything that i already know...

it is a 92, it is a factory turbo car, it is AWD.

i cant think of an example, but when working as a tech there were some vehicles which would received a slight mid year change, and that would change the engine code for the vin, even though it was the same engine.

if decoding didnt really help then the only thing is to check the production date itself on the car.

The more important thing to know is whether it's a 6 or 7 bolt and that is as easy as doing this...

According to my CAPs, there are differences in motors codes, but only with it being a FWD or AWD. The engine code should be D27A with a vehicle name code of 50G. Now, the classification changes with one being either Federal or Cali specs. No. code is MNGFL4M is for Fed and MNGFL9M is for Cali spec. Other than that, check the oil pan for it being a 6 or 7 bolt.

Model Trim: RS Turbo AWD RS Turbo RS Laser Engine Code 4G63T (turbo) 4G63T (turbo) 4G63 (non-turbo) 1.8L (non-turbo) 1.8L (non-turbo) Engine Specs 16 valve, 2.0L, DOHC 16 valve, 2.0L, DOHC 16 valve, 2.0L, DOHC 8 valve, 1.8L, SOHC 8 valve, 1.8L, SOHC Turbo 14b (13g a/t) 14b (13g a/t) N/A N/A N/A Horsepower 195 195 135 92 92 Drivetrain AWD FWD FWD FWD FWD
Pros: [ul][*] Stock "6-bolt" blocks are believed to be immune to crankwalk (92.5+ models have 7-bolt)[*] Better flowing cylinder head ports than 2g cars[*] Bigger connecting rods through 92.5 model year[*] Bigger intake manifold and (60mm) throttle body[*] Stock 14b turbo has most power potential (A/T cars came with smaller 13g)[*] Steel BOV[*] Stronger suspension than 2g cars[*] Both LSD rear differential and ABS on 92 models and up [/ul]
Cons: [ul][*] "7-bolt" block more susceptable to "crankwalk"[*] Smaller exhaust manifold that cracks[*] Smaller O2 housing than 2g cars[*] Smaller 10.2" front calipers on pre 92.5 model year cars[*] Single-piston calipers on pre 92.5 model year cars[*] Only some models came with an EPROM ECU[*] The worst ABS system among DSMs [/ul]
Oh here's a DSM vin decoder btw. I know you've already decoded your VIN Pat, but this may be helpful to others in here.
*lol, I guess, I need to paste the link, lol*

I would say 1-1.5k would be a fair offer.
