Default motor rebuild

well heres what im tearin up now, 6 bolt motor, ran great but head gasket went. every other gasket on the thing leaked like a siv so we decided to pull the motor and freshen it up.
then once the head came off there was valve marks in the pistons from the old head that was obviously changed, and i found a crack in a piston beside a valve dent. How long its been like that who knows but its never a nice thing to see. the rest of the internals are perfect other than the rings show quite a bit of wear.
id like to keep the stock 7.8:1 compression because i am a boost happy maniac and know ill blow it up if i go to a 2g piston.
any reccomendations?
im half tempted to just buy a buscher stage 1 short block, but theyre 8.5:1...therye only 45 minutes away, and im taking the trans to john shep, which is about 8 miles from here because it jumps out of 4th and is full of aluminum shavings and makes some sick noises.
