I'd go with a 44mm to match up with the 35R. That's just me though

That's a good question, most of the larger turbo setups I've looked at were mated with a 44mm. The smaller turbos have 34mm option flappers and they aren't that big at all, granted 10mm in diameter isn't all that "huge", but it's not a matter of the gate being able to handle the boost, the real question is...will it be able to handle the exhaust gases and will it be able to release enough to keep from creeping? That's just an area that I would go big to keep from creeping.
