This pic is the closest I found anywhere of the underhood of that Eclipse (even though it's a Galant) It had 1 belt per cam (2) and a balance shaft. In my 40 years as a mechanic and parts man I have never run into a motor that even the dealer couldn't identify.
The guys at JDM engine may have done the swap for her ex.
