Default Tranny Question...

Hey guys I'm new to the forums but have always liked the talon, laser, and eclipse finally got my hands on a 94 talon 1.8 got the fever started now I am driving the 94 talon and just picked up a 92 Laser 2.0 RS non turbo project car. The tranny in it has no 2nd gear or it does sometimes but most of the time you put it in 2nd it just sits and whines so I assume I need a new tranny my question is what will work and what do you guys recommend I also plan to swap in a turboat some point with all the high performance parts I can get my hands on. I have a few pics also so here they are. The 92 laser.

I recomend getting rid of it. A new tranny is worth more than the car itself.

Doing the turbo swap isint possible.

Get a GSX!

Ah not gonna get rid of it I really like the car and are you sure the swap isn't possible from everything i've read it is if you swap a stock turbo from another car into it along with change the wire harness and the computer? Alot of work but I have a few friends who will work for resonable rates I plan on having alot of cash into it when I'm done anyhow with fuel rails, custom exhaust, racing clutch, drilled and slotted rotors, the works. As of now the only thing on it is a set of KYB lowering springs though. I already have a set of 17"s off a 2003 eclipse for it with new winter tread low pros (currently on the talon) and a grant racing steering wheel. It is a project car like I said. I can find a tranny for around $400 used or can buy another car to rip one out of for around the same price just wondering what is best to put in it.

You should be able to pick up a fwd turbo trans way cheaper then $400.00. The swap isnt easy but can be done, check out vfaq.com and they have the different pinouts on the ecu for a turbo and nonturbo. Make sure you do a lot of research before you start n/t to turbo project.

Why would you spend all that money on it when it would be so much easier to get a GSX?

Its really not that expensive he can use the stock bottom end and run boost safely around 8-10lbs.

All he would need are

450cc injectors $50.00
turbo ecu$75.00
14b turbo $100.00
stock i/c, i/c piping $50.00
stock exhaust free-$100.00
bov $25.00

and add the knock sensor and maf to accomidate the turbo ecu. Its really not that big of a deal

If he wants to do it let him, thats why its a "project car." Everyone doesnt need a gsx, some people preffer having a fwd. Idk why lol, but there are less parts that can "break."

I wouldn't mind having a GSX or TSIbut difference in them are I can invest $ over time into the car I have buying a GSX I need all the cash at once and as it goes right now I am a stay at home father so doing a little at a time is better I buy cars all the time and will probably end up with a few more eclipses, talons, and lasers before it is said and done I just jump on them when I see them sell really cheap then have spare parts for the next 1 I get. The last time I cleaned out the lot (an acre field with a dirt track i play with derby cars on and store vehicles on) I had 13 vehicles that I sent to the crusher now I am back up to 4.

I would continue w/ the swap, I have some parts if you need them.

I was going to to the same thing to my 92 but it ended up jumping time. Just do a compression and cylinder leak test to make sure the engine you have is in good shape.
