TURD POLISHED STILL A TURD?
ok here is the thing, I know that when you polish a turd it is still a turd but i need your inputs please. I have a 1.8 motor that i pulled and found the rod bearings shaved in the oil pan,so a rebuild is on the way. I know some people are going to tell me to throw it away and swap a 2.0 turbo,,I dont want to do that. I plan on having the head ported and polished my first question is what cam should i put in the head to make it a little more agressive? Second can i put a header on it if so which one? Third i dont want a ricer sound so can i put a flowmaster exhuast on it? I plan on a cold air intake also.I want to save this car it is a really clean 93 eclipse that i want to keep close to stock as possible. THANKS TO ALL WHO ANSWER THIS POST...................TOM
Well, the thing is..most of us are going to advise you to pull that n/a 4g63 and put in a 4g63t. That's not what you want to do though. Most of us, and please speak up guys if you feel different, feel that the 1.8L is too small of a motor...kind of like the 420a is to the 2G. Even a stock 4g63t will zip that 1G around easier than the 1.8L.
Yes, even built, that 1.8 is still a turd.
I'm curious as to why you want to keep that 1.8? If it's gas milage, it's not that much better than the stock turbo model, maybe by 3-4 miles better. A swap would be a matter of the motor, engine harness, instrument cluster, and ECU. There's no fabrication because it's just a .2L smaller motor and everything is on the same side.
If you're trying to go all motor, then you are going to spend more time and MONEY on making that n/a "fast". So again, why?

i know ithought it would get people fired up on my post. Basiclly iwant tokeep the car as close to stock as possible, i like to keep things original, but i want to put in a n more agressive cam re work the head and more of a throaty sounding exhuast
i'm gonna help you out here but just want you to know that with your n/a setup of a header back exhaust, intake, port job and cams you still won't be as fast as a stock 1 or 2g tubo'd. you can find exhausts on tons of sights check cimotorsports.net, extremepsi.com, slowboyracing.com, and ebay. some ppl get rid of their used exhausts. i wouldn't get a no name exhaust b/c ususally it sounds like a pissed off bee inside of a coffea can which can ususally be found on cars like CRX's.... ha. i bought my header, intermediate pipe, and high flow cat in 1 package from OBX Racing from ebay. OBX has come a long way and makes decent parts and i believe are trustworth. good luck w/ ur turd, i hope it works out for you.
If I were you I wouldnt have bought the car but thats a different story....
Just have the motor rebuilt and put it in. Dont even think about the swap as well, or modding it for that matter. It will sound like **** being n/a and wont get you any more power. Keep the car stock and if you want to have a car that will react to upgrades get a turbo model.
Oh and if you find a dealer that sells a cam for your car I would like a link...As well as a CAI....I could see an intake pipe and filter but a CAI???

well i only paid 200.00 dollars for the car and the interior is clean it needs paint ,but after pulling motor we found out that the girl who i bought it from ran the car to the ground it cooked the crank and also the head sooooooo for 800.00 dollars im going to put in it ive decided to keep it stock put in the rebuilt motor and sell the car for around 1500.00-2000.00-----------------tom
