Default 1998 Spyder - Top Leaks

Ok, I just bought a really sweet 1998 Eclipse Spyder with really low milleage. There's only one problem: the tops leaks. It's not a little leak either. The boot was full of water after a storm last week. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how much it would cost to fix it?

I would appreciate any info from other eclipse owners.

Thanks

Jackie

There is some sort of a rain repelant you can buy for convertibles with the cloth top like ours. I have a bottle at home, but I won't be home until sat. sometime. Ill look at what its called and get back to you. You only have to apply it about every 7-9 months too, but you can't drive your car for 3 days while it dries.

The boot was filled? Man, that is serious....check and see if the rear window is sealed tightly. I had that stuff Spyderman was talking about, it works pretty good. I think it had a duck or something on the bottle...

I was also having a problem with my top leaking. I have a 96 spyder and the leaks are on both sides right were the two rubber joints meet the window from the top. The leak is on both sides. I also have a problem with my top closing all the way. It is like it wont seal tightly. I know it is a bit ghetto but I put some cigarette tin foil and that works well for the most part. But I tried turning the spikes that hold the top down and they bent not screwed so I was like f*ck and bent it back. N E Suggestions on what to do?

Try tightening the j hooks on the top. Loosen the allen screw and twist j hook clockwise to tighten the seal between the top and the windshield. Worked for my 3g spyder.

Are u talking about the rain gutter??? When the top closed the rubber gutter needs run the water free and guide to under the the to small convertible windows. Could possibly be the rubber is clogged with trash and debris. To check if there's junk the gutter open the top all the 100% go trunk removed the board access the tops reserved space. There is a x bar in there to keep clear, at the area top of the x bar there are 3 clips holding a rubber piece facing up that's the gutter with ur hands reach in and feel around don't worry u won't break nothing I check mines a lot i did it last night after washing my spyder
