alright guys ive found a 2g gst shell and im looking for a 4g engine which i'll prob find in the next few days...talk to me...how much work am i about to get myself into by putting the engine in...oh forgot to mention this will be my first time putting an engine into anything...so how far over my head am i about to get...

 

if youve got a 2g shell, then why would you want to put a 4g engine in it. I say go with a 6-bolt 4g63

 

to be honest with you i was just thining lazy b/c i dont want to have to fab like that one mount or bracket or w/e so i can put the 6-bolt in...but i do have a q that i wanna ask w/o being crucified on here...

 

oh wait by 4g you meant 4g63? nvm i was confused i think. Well if you have a shell then i really thinks its worth the small extra effort to go with the 6bolt. There really isnt too much difference between the two

 

go with the 6 bolt.... it eliminates the possability of crankwalk so you don't dump all of this cash into your engine just to have it take a crap on you.

 

im thinkin i'll just go with the six then lol it seems crankwalk must be a pretty serious problem if i ever run into it or something so im thinking i'll just go with you guys and put the 6 bolt in it...has anyone on here actually done a 7bolt to 6 bolt conversion personally??

 

3 or 4 members have. one guy (can't remember the exact s/n) is doing it right now. he bought a long block 6 bolt from Slowboy and is putting it in now (he has a thread called "how far am i?") right now. its definatly a good idea to do it. yes i can be a very serious problem. just imagine you rebuilding ur engine with pistons, rods, rings, crank, bearings (all this is apx 1000-1200) and then it taking a crap on you... if you are an unlucky person that money is now gone!!

 

yeah ive been keeping tabs on that thread actually i'll prob go with it even though i think it might be a little over my head for my first engine drop or w/e but i mean hell i can handle it...i have a few friends that are mechanics so i mean i'll get them to help me too and get it taken care of...def want to avoid crank walk...cant afford to put that kind of money into an engine and then have it **** up on me...can you explain like what exactly crankwalk is like in detail...

 

no. sorry lol there are a lot of theories on why it happens but basically what happens is exaclty what it sounds like... the crank begins to become unstable in the block and walks back and forth... most believe it's due to an oil problem with the bearings and squirters but there is no confirmed evidence of that. you can search it all day and come up with 4 or 5 explanations.
