I have a 2nd gen 99 gst spyder, its a fun little car but I would recommend getting a 3rd gen v6. as said before the gt is pretty identicle to the gst stock powerwise and you really don't have to worry too much about the gt taking a crap on you. most 2nd gens you'll find will probably have been driven pretty hard before from the previous owner.turbos go bad, head gaskets fail, cranks some times walk. Though if you really have your heart set out for a gst/gsx just be aware that it can be a big head acheaww isnt it so cute its taking its first steps...

simss has a lot of good points.. i guess it's all a matter of preference... i LOVE the look of the 2g's. the reason i'm not worried about my soon to be GSX taking a dump on me is b/c i wil have a full race motor/turbo/trani built on the side the day my stock engine dies so basically everything on the car other than the frame will be brand new.

and THIS is exactly why if you are looking for a quick car, you should get a 2gt. replacing engine parts with forged parts isn't cheap, a bottom end rebuild if you go all out and do it right is about 1100-1500 depending on parts and purchase location.

hell tps got my new engine done.. forged pistons and rods.. bored out the whole overhaul ordeal and all that for 4k.

let me clarify that.. the 6g72 pistons are ****... now the i-4 pistons can take alot more pressure.

thank you for proving why he should not try to get a 3g and make it fast lol if you caught that he said for pistons, rods, bore and basically an overhaul it was 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS! that's not including the turbo, fuel, engine management, boost gauge, intercooler, ic piping, bov, tuning, fuel pump, clutch, etc etc etc... i'm not knocking on you WPSpyderGT you have a BAD@$$ ride!!!! i'll be the first to admit it, but that is a $hitload of money to spend!!!

mmm the turbo it self was 4k - 5k... the engine rebuild it self was 4k-5k with refreshed heads.. bought the car for 12k... tires alone were 1.5k... rims/springs/struts/rotors/ all around 2k... headlights and HIDs both around 500. and my most fav mod... and cheapestnotice on the dash my indiana hoosiers plate$5.99 at the indiana airport!

so yes... if you want a quick car... but dont want the spend the cash i did.. go for the 2g please... but if you want a quick car and spend the money i did.. or you have the money then sure go ahead with the 3g...
im pretty sure my car can beat the 2fast2furious eclipse now =D. tahts been my goal since day one.. which really wasnt that hard all i had to do was add a intake hah

Vatch, heard enough yet? lol if you don't have a calculator next to you, that's over 26k invested into his car. i'm going to guestimate that with some good boost and a good tune he'll be pushing right around 400whp? depends on the turbo, and suporting fuel. OR you could buy a 97-99 gsx, just by getting that alone you'll be beating him off the line. invest 2k into the car and be rolling him, even with your awd drivetraiin you are still lighter than a 3g. but WPSpyder... that is one sick nasty 3rg!!! gonna have to give you praise on that, definatly the best overall 3g i've ever seen.
