2nd Gen Engine types?
I am in the market to get myself a newer used car. I want a 5 speed manual on it, and preferably no turbo (my parents don't want insurance to sky rocket).
I was looking to buy a 1995-1999 eclipse RS or GS but after I read on wikipedia that they use CHRYSLER MOTORS, i am not so sure I want one.
Is this true? Do they all use chrysler motors? Do any use mitsubishi motors?
If they do then I need to get a 2000 or newer (i like that design anyways too), as they use mitusbishi motors for sure.
Can you guys help me?
THanks, Adam

RE: 2nd Gen Engine types?
Yes the 95-99 eclipse non turbo have a420a chrysler motor which isnt a bad motor for a daily driver, the only real issue is the head gasket. But other than that they are fine. The only way to get a non turbo 2g without this motor is to get a convertable which came with a 4g64 mitsu engine

Tell your paretns to do their research before hand. If you look at the differences in insurance between the GST/GSX and the GS/RS, it really isnt that much.
FYI, if you ever want to make power from a GS/RS, give up its the same with the 3rd generation GS/GT, they are just hard to make power from.
As far as the GS/RS not being reliable because its a chrysler motor, they are actually half decent.

they're one of the quicker 4-bangers that i've driven, but if you look at insurance like seb said it probably wont be that much difference, especially for the awd gsx cause, well, it's awd lol

ya if you want speed... just buy a gst or gsx for sure, the difference in insurance will be well worth it cuz you wont have the headache of havin to put thousands into the gs to make it fast, and trust me, you will try your best to make it fast everybody does, but it wont work and besides AWD is better in the rain so its safer which is a good arguement to make to your parents, i mean, wats more important cheaper insurance by MAYBE 15 bucks a month or the safety of their child???
parents these days are so easy i tell ya lol

Orrrrr.... Get a GS Spyder, and do the infamous head and turbo swap... The insurance company and ur parents certainly couldnt tell the difference, lol.
And Seb, whats so hard about powering up the GS 3G? The GT, sure... But the GS is 4g64 powered... thats a little easier. Thats why Im hating on my GT 3G right now, lol.
