Default is 420a a noninterference motor?

Gettin ready to do my timing belt when I can, and kinda curious about whether or not there is clearence between the piston and valves at the highest point. I was told some motors if the timing belt/chain breaks interference motors will slam the pistons all the way up and kill the pistons, and bend the valves. Noninterference the highest point leaves clearence so it wont kill the motor (i know my brothers subaru was like that.) Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks I appreciate it. Not the answer I was hoping for but good to know for when I do it. Main reason I asked is I was kinda thinkin of gettin some nice lookin obx cam gears and makin it look a little better. My brother informed me that not havin the timing cover on will wear the gears, ballbearings and even the belt/chain a lot faster. Less than 3 months ago he changed the belt and gears and broke his cover. He already has to replace them soon. Well I guess nix that idea huh?
