Default 4G63 in Eclipse

Is it possible to put an Evo motor (4G63) into a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse? My friend says he has a buddy with an Eclipse that's running a 4G63 tuned with 17 pounds of boost. Is this possible?

The 1g/2g eclipse gst and gsx have a 4g63 stock, the 4g63 orginated from the eclipse and other dsm cars like the talon, lazer and vr4 galant. The evo got the 4g63 after it was reworked. Also many different versions of the eg63 exists, theirs a non turbo version thats found in some 1g eclips gs, eclipse base, talon base, talon dl, lazer rs, and lazer base. It also is found in some late 80's cars as a sohc carb application and other mitsu cars use the motor like the marrage, dimate, and the base galant. Lots of newer cars use the mivec version of the 4g64 which is a 4g63 but sohc and a 2.4 liter.

Well, he just got his eclipse tuned and he wants to race my Evo. If he has the same engine with 15 pounds of boost he will take me then...right?

Well it depends, the eclipse is hevier and the evo has better aero dynamics. For the most part the it will depend on who is the better driver. Who can launch better and who can power shift better.

I have a 98 gst and my buddy and I were thinkin somethin along the same lines.... Were wanting to know if its possible to take a motor out of my buddys wrecked evo... were wantin to leave it front wheel drive and maybe if possible use soome other parts from his totaled evo..... brakes, rotors, corbeau seats, and maybe the rims..... so is it possible to put his motor in my car because im hoping to leave it front wheel drive and jack some srt 4s up on the streets with it.....?

No your correct, the evo motor is a 4g63 but its reengineered. the cam sprockets sit on the other side. Why would you want to swap your motor with an evo motor? Its the same motor? Save the money and get an evoIII16g turbo w/ supporting mods and run 12's.

With the newer version of the 4G63 in the evo, do you still have to worry about crankwalk? So instead of put in a 6 bolt in you drop and evo motor in.

The evo's 4g63 is tight,

The rear bumper of the eclipse works as a parachute, thats why some body kits have high ground clearances in the back and some people put/mold air vents in the back bumper. Its to relieve the drafted air. The eclipse has crappy front down force where the evo's front bumber is desgined to pull the front of the car towards the ground. Lastly the tall basket handel wing only holds down force up to 130. The evo's stock stand up wing if I am not mistaken can hold the tail down up to 150. Also factory the evo comes with a much better suspension and brake system. The evo is a out of the box race car where the eclipse gst/gsx is a economy import on crack. Its got moves, but it needs some help to get even with the evo.
