Default 95 GSX??

Hey, im new to this site.... Im currently looking into buying a 95 GSX... I dont really know much about it, i like the car alot, and i like what you can do to the car, and its looks... Obviously its a fast car, I got some pictures of it to show you too... It has 67,000 miles on it, 18" niche rims, kumho tires, eibach 2" lowering springs, kyb struts, greddy hard piping / bov, apex AFC, custom intake, and a thermal exhaust... Now the only problem with the car is, that it needs a brand new clutch... Does this mean that if I get this car, that im ready to do more than just the clutch? Whats the common problems with it? Because I dont want to have to pay for a clutch right away, and then after get slapped with tons more maintenance... I want to be able to save up money and work on it to maybe get it at least in mid 300 ponies range, eventually, and hopefully....And is it a good buy for 5,800? Thanks

When you drive it like a racecar, you need to maintain it like a racecar. There is alot of potential for a gsx if you know what you are doing. The problem with buying someone elses project is that you have to go over it witha fine toothed comb to see where shortcuts were taken (if any) and find the particular car's little bugs. You can tell alot about the owners priorities by glancing under the hood. Is this the car's original clutch? If so, thats mean it probably has not had too much abuse (until recently). My opinion from the pictures only? The owner has some mechanical ability but not much of an understanding of how to maintain a performance car. Your GSX is in need of someone who wants this car to run like a swiss watch. But thats what we love to do, is'nt it? As to the value fothe car, you'll have to check www.kbb.com
P.S. Someone should tell that guy to ditch the chrome, It's heavy. For every 8 pounds added or taken from a cars weight, you gain or lose 1 HP

LOL I agree ditch the chrome. In my opinion chrome is tacky and teh Eclipse is a heavy car that was highly underpowered stock in the first place. Otherwise I agree entirely with Firedoc. You ARE buying someone elses problems BUT if it's running decent a clutch isn't incredibly expensive to do if you are doing it yourself.

my suggestion, look everything over under the hood and do a compression test. If you dont know what you are doing take it to a mechanic an get it checked out for $100 before you buy. And make the owner give you back the original wheels/tail lights yuck.

Chrome belongs on cars older than 1980 only.

yeah i agree with the chrome... its ugly... thats the first thing i would do, get some nice 5 spoke wheels on there... yeah the only thing wrong with it is the clutch, the orginal askin price is 6500, but they found out the clutch went out and the lowered it to 5,800... i wouldn't install my own clutch on there, i would be a clutch and pay a shop labor to install it... But its just 67k on a 95 gsx... thats pretty good huh? hard to come by that kind of mileage now day on one of those.... i dont know if i can take a mechanic, the car is 250 miles away from where i live, i live in chicago and its in iowa... so thats pretty rough...
