I thought the rev limiter was at 7500 RPMs maybe he is reving it up there to get to 100 in 3rd gear? and one of your gauges my be off. I think they have a tolerence level of +/- 5 MPH

Also you shouldent shift at the red on a stock 420a, the car dosent make enough power at that high of a r. I know its stupid try racing him again and shift 1st gear at 6, 2nd at 62 and third at 66. I bet you will pull on him a bit more.

is that video a 420a?

it actually looks like it gets up to 60 prety quickly, but then it falls flat on its face in 3rd

I hate to be a nay sayer but I cant belive it till I see it. and I got those years from RX7 club I my buddy has a 93 FD3 R1 over there NESPEED is the S\N.....Its a 1993 R1 RX7
off the top of my head it is street ported, clipped turbos(stock twins), 4Row FMIC, HKS twin intakes, CraneHi-6 ingnition, Pettit racing downpipe and midpipe, 3mm apex seals, TT supra fuel pump , free mods, non sequencial mod, Apexi power FC, Apexi ACV-r(12 PSI), It has the MKIV supra Royal Saphire Pearl paint, and anyone who knows supras that paint only came origanal on 84 supras to the US shores it is pretty rare on a supra and lots of guys use it as a cutom paint .... and tons more I cant think of. I love his car though and I took these pics a in september when I went up to Ma. thought id share

Here's a dumb question for ya..but it was just something that came across my mind...Is your buddy running custom wheels and low profile tires and are you running stock wheels and tires? A lower profile tire will throw the speedometer off a little bit...I was running my stock wheels and tires on my '99 GS-T for a little while after I bought it and then I switched to my custom wheels and low profile tires (205/40/16 at the time) and I noticed that they made my speedometer read about 7 miles per hour faster than what I was actually doing.

i don't see where the confusion is. you said that the only way it could be a '97 is if it was imported. he said that it was imported by the guy that his dad bought the car from. so what is there to believe?
