i don't see where the confusion is. you said that the only way it could be a '97 is if it was imported. he said that it was imported by the guy that his dad bought the car from. so what is there to believe?

It isnt and easy thing to import a car from Japan. In order to be able to drive it there are TONS of things you need to go threw it really inst worth it to do that. I have only seen 1 JDM rx7 that is drivable in the states so far it was a 99 spirit he is on RX7club

Also you shouldent shift at the red on a stock 420a, the car dosent make enough power at that high of a r. I know its stupid try racing him again and shift 1st gear at 6, 2nd at 62 and third at 66. I bet you will pull on him a bit more.

is that video a 420a?

it actually looks like it gets up to 60 prety quickly, but then it falls flat on its face in 3rd

Give him a break he doesn't have a 98. My buddy had a hell of a time getting his silvia moter imported. But if you do thats pretty sweet and you should show a pic.
