96 Eclipse Engine Rod Bearing
Wondering if anyone knows what size rod bearing I should use.
I had a pretty worn rod bearing on my Eclipse and just put a standard size in,
It did quite down a lot but you can still hear it knock .
Just wondering if I should put in a OverSize or UnderSize bearing in.
Thanks

RE: 96 Eclipse Engine Rod Bearing
I hope you didnt just throw the bearings in and call it a day. For every cause their was an action, I hope you fixed the cause. I personally dont know but maybe someother member can shead some light on the subject. Personally I think you will be fine but if anything putting oversized bearings will make them "knock" less than it you put smaller ones in. BTW what exactly did you do? I hope you dont have a 4g63 and just replaced the bearings and not check the spec's on the crank. Crank walk is an ugly thing.

Yeah the first thing I thought of was crankwalk when I was reading the question. I cannot stress this enough people there is ALWAYS a reason things break!! If it's not due to sheer age and wear then you NEED to find the CAUSE and repair THAT first THEN fix the problem and you'll be good to go!!.

It looked like the crank was in pretty good shape. I measured it with a dial caliper and looked like it was worn
maybe .016 from stock I do have 114k on the 420a motor. Everything runs fine and starts with no problem.
When the RS is cold no knock but when it heats up a little you can here it especially over 2500 rpms.
I will try to put in the OverSized one , but the Dealer sells only Undersize.
I will call around to see if anyone has OverSize bearings.
Will get back to you guys on this and thanks for the info.

Only go to them if your only other option is a backyard mechanic that wears the same clothes to work everyday and only has one tooth and only talks about his muddin truck.... that he cant figure out whats wrong with it....

RE: 96 Eclipse Engine Rod Bearing
yeah I know the RS I bought was from a girl who took it to the Dealer and they told here she needed a new engine so I took the car of her hands. When I got the car home it was knocking pretty bad I knew it was a rod bearing right away so I took the oil pan out and replaced the one that was bad, but didnt think I needed a OverSized bearing so I put in what I could get a standard one just to see if what would happen . It did quite down a lot but you can still hear it. Paid $ 8.00 for the new bearing. Will try to call around for a oversized one . Will be in touch.
