i bought a 97 eclipse the other day. have some questions. when i start it up, it smokes out the exhaust and it stinks and when i turn the car off, it shakes, like its dying. i was told something about o rings, and then oil leak somewhere. me being a female branched away from the honda and acura's like i know and wanted to try something new, and i need help on fixin my boy blu.PLEASE HELP ME.. I GREATLY APPRECIATE IT..

 

What color smoke is it? About the O-rings, did they say o-rings to what?

 

light grey smoke and nothing about the o rings. would an oil change and spark plugs help car run better

 

Well if you have an oil leak, and oil change is not going to do much. It will make it run better, but you will just have an oil leak. Spark plugs could also help if the ones on there now are no good. Check out your spark plugs if you like. They might be black. But I dont think that has anything to do with the smoke.

 

what could the smoke be from.? all you can smell is exhaust, or carbon monoxcide i think. it gives me a headache so i think thats it,lol. blondes and their cars, lol.

 

Its gotta be an oil leak then. Can you not see where the oil is coming from? It could be gaskets, which is the most common problem. Try looking. Try to get a picture out so that we can see it. Take a pic of your engine. It could help...

 

i'll take a pic of engine tomorrow, so i can see it better, then i will post it. i cant see anyleak but the guy i bought it from told me i " might " have a small leak. he wasnt sure but my bro racin and works on honda's and knows nothing about mitsubishi's. but thank you, i will do all that tomorrow and post it.

 

So there might be a small leak in the engine bay? Oil burns bluish, coolant burns white, coolant smells sweet, oil smells kind of bitter. Leaking valve stem seals can make your car burn oil, a little more info would be great.

 

called some repair guys today and they said use 20w 50 heavy oil, lucas and 4.2 to 3.2 of oil. that should stop the smoke from coming out of my exhaust so bad. i was told i could blow the engine if i drive it like it is. umm i dont know much about eclipse's so i dont know what other info you want. if u ask me then i can tell you. but they said it could be my rings, to vavles, to rebuilt engine. im stumped and i dont know what to do.? any one live in the va beach area that can help me out here.

 

when i got my 98 gs eclipse the rear main seal was bad and leaking oil on the exhaust...... umm the smoke is it coming from under the car or directly from the back of the exhaust??
