Default Is a 97 GS-T really worth modding?

It is a daily driver, but I get approached so much on the highway and I so far have owned my competition. To top it off it is an auto...So in your opinion, is it really worth modding?

Just to give you an idea of what I've been up against:
96-02 Saturn Sedan....no contest
92-95 Honda Civic Si ----with decent amount of mods--once i hit 4th i was gone
99-05 Pontiac Grand Prix --dunno what happened but i left him in the dust
02 Golf --- no chance
02-05 Acura RSX ---a few mods, once i hit 4th i was gone, but did give a good run
01-05 Honda Civic --- seemed to be heavily modded, gave a good run
02-05 Mitsubishi Lancer --- decently modded, don't believe it was an evo tho, gave a dencent run

Not really a big shock, but just throwin it out there...

can you drive a standard.? i didn't know the gst came in auto..but anyway the GSt is definitly worth modding and you'll become very fast with the right setup..the GSX is allwheeldrive and is usually a lil quicker. I own a Gst , i love my car..personally the gst looks better than the gsx.idk its something about the gsx's front i don't like..but i belive, and some disagree, that a gst will "usually" beat a civic that pulls up to you as your driving around town unless they put like 5+ g's into their car lol. Although your car is an auto, do you want to be modding an auto..if you dont' drive a stick then you should go with the auto gst, but in my opinon if you want to mod your car, especially performance wise, get a manual..

well, if you have the budget to do the modding properly, then sure a gs-t is worth modding...i have a maroon gs-t and have now put about 6-7 grand into and unless its a bike or a single turbo conversion supra or sometimes an occasional RX-7, many things cant touch me from a roll...vettes, vipers, and others have a hard time keeping up when you drop a gear and go...Here's my setup

Engine-
Head- 1g head port and polish with 1mm oversized valves with springs and retainers
Intake Mani- 1g cyclone intake port and polished
Exhaust mani- stock 2g
Block- 2g with eagle h-beam rods, wiseco(.20 over) pistons, arp studs, cometic head gasket, eagle forged crank, stock bearings
Intercooler- FMIC kit from fast-turbo.com with tial blowoff
Turbo- Precision's SCM-6152E
Fuel supply- Walbro 255 hp, PTE 760cc injectors, steel braided fuel lines, aeromotive FPR
Electronics- Greddy e-manage ultimate, Greddy profec-b boost controller, innovate wide band o2
Tranny- rebuild(stock), its about to go out, again....need an lsd
Now, before i had all this i had a big 16g, SAFCII, and a boost controller and it ran like a bat out of hell still...so, in my opinion, i love the 97 body style and once you get to the 4th and 5th gears, GSX's wont hang....have fun with your gs-t and play highway games!!!

Oh yeah, but the autos gotta go, although less threat of crankwalk with the auto

I do know how to drive stick, but personally in the long run I do like the auto.....stick can get to be a pain in the ***...I do have the manual,(i needed it for my sound system) and I do know a decent amount of info on the car....it definetly owns civics, haha. Most of my lil races are rolling start, nd I know the car well enough to drop it to the right gear instead of waiting for the auto trans to decide which one it wants. I don't want to go nuts on the modding, mainly because it is a daily driver and I have about 90k miles on it. I really don't want to be converting the auto to a stick, thats costly, or i believe it is...When I got the car its not like I had a choice with the auto, but it was either an auto gst or a 02 escort....so the eclipse was well worth the extra $$$.

Also...kind of a weird question, but i was looking around for exhaust systems and I was wondering if there was any other type of tail pipe than the huge single pipe....cuz i personally think their ugly...i like what i have now, but want to chage it to make it better.....let me try to show ya

I have ()()
Most exhaust systems are ( )
But what i was looking for was ( ) ( )
or ( ) ( ) ( ) ( )

i tried....lol

the best exhaust systems are just the name brand stuff, get either a catback or turboback 3" piping exhaust (greddy, HKS, Megan, ect.). Thats really the best way to go as far as that is concerned. With some very cheap mods you can have that thing running 1 sec less on the 1/4 mile. Just get an intake, exhaust, manual boost controller and boost guage and youll be amazed at how much faster it will be for a relatively cheap amount of money.

hey congonator, have you ran that at the track yet. Im guessing probably around a low 11 sec.

and what the hell is that person talking about not liking the front of the GSX over the GST. They have the SAME front

to be honest with ya...i am afraid to run it on the track due to my past experience with trannies...lol...i am about to take i t to oklahoma to have it dyno'd and have everything set just perfect to see what it will put down...i am hoping for the mid 500's....

As for the GSX comment.....LOL, not sure about that one

yea i know to get the name brand stuff, but like i said its a daily driver, so i don't think the turboback is gonna work since most are illegal because of the decible level and emissions since you're changing or removing the catalyitic converter....with the catback, is there any that goes from a single and spits to a "Y"(i'm not even sure it'll fit or work), and also are there exhaust systems that come with a dual tip, instead of the very popular big single tip muffler or can you pretty much use any muffler you want, as long as it fits...i personally think the big single one is ugly. I have looked around for these things, but haven't come across any yet....i've only seen the ones popular with dsm's

nd yea the gsx is pretty much the same as the gst, cept the gsx is all wheel drive

I just put this set up on my Talon TSI AWD aka a gsx and it sounds great, im trying to find u an exhaust with 2 tips but its hard

Since my stock exhaust from my 95 is lying on the garage floor right now i can say for a fact that it would be almost impossible to bolt up to the stock cat, 11 years of rust and salt has destroyed the flanges, you would want to do a full turbo back ie downpipe catalytic converter and cat back
