Default 98 rs check engine light

hey everybody this is my first post and ill get right to my question. My g/f has a 1998 rs (non turbo) eclipse that recently had the timing belt changed. Well after she got it back from the shop the CEL was on and the mechanic said it was the upstream oxygen sensor, so i replaced that and reset the ecu (by disconnecting the negative battery terminal), the light came back on. Next, i scanned tooled the car and it said "ignition control/ misfire" so i thought it was plugs and plug wires and i replaced both of those items. Once again i reset the ecu and a few minutes later, the light came back on. Also, it runs rough at idle and seems to "hunt" for a constant idle speed (it fluctuates from about 750-1000 rpm). Ive been looking around the forums and seem to think it might be the ignition control module that the spark plug wires are connected to, or the throttle body might need to be cleaned. Also, would it be possible for the timing belt to be off just one notch and it run rough at idle, but yet run fine at every RPM except that? Sorry for the long post but this is making me frustrated![:@]

The ecu has a code for bad timming adjustment. Chances are its the coil pack. But to just double check pull off the timing belt cover and check the lines on the gears to see if the timming is dead on.

*UPDATE* my g/f took the car back to the mechanic and lo and behold it was the timing belt! i kinda figured that in the first place because this guy is kind of a shade tree kinda guy but hey her dad was payin the bills so whatever. but anyways thanks for the help! she got back her good gas mileage also, 35-40 mpg! The wierdest thing was that the car never threw the timing code but who knows? lol thanks again!

Well nuts with the description of the engine hunting I was going to guess Idle Air Control motor... Glad to hear you've got it up and running and are getting that good a gas mileage out of it.
