98 spyder gst tranny issue
hey everyone,i went to go to work the other day and i could not get my car to go into gear.(5 speed manual). i drove it the night before and it was all good and like i said the next day the only gear it would go into was reverse with a bit of trouble and heavy grinding and banging.i was told the clutch was gone but i need to know for sure.how can a clutch be fine one night then 12 hours later it does not work?

check all the fluids? and does your clutch feel 'full' good come back and some resistance while pressing it? or does it just go to the floor and bounce back? or better yet.. does the clutch feel n e different than it did 12hrs ago?

That and the other thing you can do is check the clutch fluid. Make sure the resevior is full. Perhaps you have a leak on the hydraulics and not a bad clutch after all. Also bear in mind that if the clutch is going bad that it acts like a brake. Heating and cooling affect it as well. The heat from your previous night may have made it sticky enough to make it home but once the clutch pad cooled it may have lost that property. Just a theory I'm tossing out there dunno how true it is.

clutch fluid is good, pedal feels a little more firm actually,a little harder to press.i can go through all the gears fine with the car off,but start the car and it will not go into gear.i never thought that a bad clutch would keep the car from going into gear,i figure it would go into gear fine but take alot of rpm's to get it moving and you would really need to ride it in order to shift and all.just my guess.all i know is it sucks and i cant afford a new trans right now.thanks guys
