Default 98rs overheating at idle but stops cools at 3k

Hi my car is overheating at idle but if I push the clutch in or put it in neutral and push the gas the thermometer drops back down quickly.

Its not the fans. Because they run the whole time and that wouldn't explain the drop in temp by pushing the gas. Also I notice it gets hot really quick on right hand turns. Its weird.

All so I don't know if it's the water pump or not but every time I have had to replace a water pump I didn't have these symptoms.

Any one have this happen before? What did it take to fix it?

Thermostat and water pump. Change them both.

When was the last time you changed your timing belt too? You should probably do the 60k mile service.

That includes:

Timing belt
Tensioner
Water pump
Transmission fluid change and flush

No no real loss of coolant but my overflow was empty. For some reason my car keeps spitting out the oil dipstick and it seems like a oil mist is around it. That wouldn't cause it? Would it? Im thinking well hopeing a coolant flush will work. Maybe its clogged and only once I get to a higher RPM will the water pump have enuf *** to push the water threw effectively.

You have a piston ring seal problem. Thats whats causing the dip stick.

Yea thats called blow by when your getting air in the oil pan. As far as the coolant issue. If the overflow is empty then there must be a leak somewhere. Unless it overflowing and going out the top of it.

Have you noticed any smoking from the tail pipe (im just trying to totally rule out a head gasket issue before you start thinking of the other minor stuff)

If the coolant level isn't changing dramatically, but the car is overheating, I would say they are entirely unrelated.

i find it hard to say that an empty overflow tank and an overheating problem are unrelated...

Unless you mean the blowby and overheating (yes those 2 are unrelated)

He is prolly talking about the blow by. As far as the head gasket. Its brand spanken new well only a year old. I got the car used and the newest thing under the hood was the head gasket.

I haven't let it get hot enuf for the overflow to puke. So there must be a leak somewhere. Maybe its my water pump. But it still doesn't explain why the pump works better at high rpm's unless maybe the impellers in the pump are eroded.

Oh allso if your head gasket is blown wouldn't it always over heat and there be water in your oil?

Some one told me that i should try turning my heater on and he said that makes the coolant go threw the heater core or somthing like that. And said if that stops the over heating then my radiator is clogged. Is this true?

Thanks for the help guys.
