Really? I never really had problems with doing it. But some people just arent comfortable with it. You can really destroy things with the DOHC engine if not timed right. The one I have right now is going to need a new engine due to it being timed wrong. It's looking like the piston got a valve shoved through it cuz of that. So it IS a big deal and not the easiest thing to do to a car.

yeah so if i blew my engine would it just shut right off? and i had someone look at it and it was two teeth off is that bad?

i know u can blow your engine if it is timed wrong but then ppl say it has to be off by a lot to blow?

should i push the car to the garage to get it fixed is this the safer route?

Well depending which part is off (either 1 of the camshafts or the crank) If one of the cams are off then you'll run the risk of bending valves and damaging pistons due to pistons smacking the valves. BUT on the up side of THAT scenario you'll tear up the valves either on the intake side OR the exhaust side and depending how far off (Yous doesn't sound TOO far off) you may just put dents in the pistons and or bend the valves. Now the other one is the cams are both in time w each other but the crank os out of time... YOu're going to smack the valves both intake and exhaust with the pistons probably doing ALOT more damage (Again depending how far the timing is off). As for the engine turning off... I doubt it especially if it's only a tooth or 2. But on the more extreme side if you're WAY out of time you could possibly slam a valve THRU a piston and the engine will most definately stop after that (Case in point is mine. The guy who sold it to me REALLY fooked it up I'll have pics on a website soon for you guys to see. Essentially there is a valve either bent enough to hold it down OR it's been shoved thru the piston I think it's thru the piston cuz the engine won't turn much at all but I didn't have the time to tear the head off yet kinda got discouraged when I tried to take off the exhaust manifold and the nuts started stripping.). Hope this helps you at least a little. If you ARE going to drive it to the shop I recommend babying it. Don't rev it high at all and just chill al the way there. That should minimize any possible damage. Though again if it's only that much off it shouldn't do much damage anyways.
