Default Alternator wiring harness

On my 1999 Spyder alternator wiring harness there is a small diameter plastic tube or hose. Right now it's not connected anywhere. Can anyone tell me what this is for and if it need to be connected somewhere?

alternator will be connected to positive(charge), ground, and positive (voltage sensor/field). Sometimes there will be one or two more.

Does it work?

Works fine but just wondering what this tubing is. It is contained in the same harness as the alternator plug-in connection but I'm certain it has nothing to do with the alternator. It's just a hollow tubing that disappears somewhere near the radiator.
