can you pull the head yourself? its alot of labor $$$ for a shop I pulled mine in an hour with help at a shop your looking at most likely longer and at $70\hr and that is not changing any parts and putting the head back on.

John had the head rebuilt by mitsu on his talon and it came to $2200 or something like that. At least your not rebuilting the head but still alot of time and labor

Well how much do you think it would cost if i pulled out the head myself and then took it a machine shop?

Dude if you want to find out if its your headgasket then its really easy to tell... just look for oil all over your engine bay and all over the engine itself. The pop could be just a backfire... remember you did put your downpipe on and you arent running a cat. That could also be it.

Do you guys think it is necessary to take the head to a maching shop? Or can I just change the head gasket?

he did say coolant was all over the engine bay did he not???[&:] and he did say there was a aHUGE trail of smoke right

So I am guessing i do have to take my head to a machine shop? Or can I just replace the head gasket? By the way, there wasnt oil all over my engine bay... but there was a trail of smoke.

I already talked to Sebba about that post on aim... lol!

you could do the job yourself if you have the time and patience, its gonna require having to redo the timing tho, that might not be something you want to do youreslf depending on your experience
