You dont want to be running the car without the belt installed. Reason being is that aside from the rattle your gonna get with it off, your gonna cause damage to the balance shaft bearings and with that you could cause further problem with the motor including low oil pressure. Which we all know is not something you want in a 7 bolt . I would not run it till you get a new belt on there or you do the balance shaft removal mod (kinda a pain to do though). But in case your interested in it. Here is a link

b4 i did this whole thing my belt was all tengled up in the gears which was a pain to get out, i didnt notic any rattling.(could this have caused damage to the bearings that u r talking about because i dont know how long the belt had been broken b4 i did this, 1 day-1 year idk)but when i reinstaled the first one 3 days ago i noticed that it really started to vibrate a whole lot more then it used to. then the belt broke. lucky enough for me i was able to get it b4 i put all the covers and stuff back on. i was testing it to make sure i had it timed correctlly and then all of a sudden i c a rubber belt go flying out from underneath the car. so u say that i sould just wait and put a new one on

well im just saying you shouldnt drive the car without a balance shaft belt. Your saying you got vibration when you replaced the belt the first time? And what happened to that one?

it broke off . the belt was a cheapo 5 bucks but the guy said it would work. he was wrong. with te vibration i know i need new motor mounts could that have caused the vibrations to. i didnt have the vib. b4, but maybe because i took of the one mount that might have changed where it sat and now vibrates. or dose it sound like i might have had the b/s timed wrong?

I snapped my balance shaft belt in my '97 Spyder GS once and it burnt out the crank sensor while I was driving so the car basically shut down and wouldn't start again...it cost me like $400 to have the parts ordered and repairs made.
