He also told me on AIM that his boost guage is only reading 5-6 psi

 

if u can't hear ur bov... the air isn't geting to the tb to be blocked up to make the bov go off... my best guess would be a massive boost leak, like a blown coupler somewhere that would have to be before the uicp.

True enough... Then again, could be a number of things,
Like a loose vaccum line. If there was a fire, it could have melted through one,
Or, it could be a loose air inlet hose
Or, it could be a burnt hole in one of the air inlet hoses,
Or, it could be one, or more of the injectors not firing fully
Or, it could be a leak in the downpipe.
Or, it could be He blew a weld on the manifold (ok, that was a F&F joke)
Or, it could be fried pistons
Or, it could be valves not seating all the way
Or, it could be completely electrical, and the wire that is controlling either the BOV, or wastegate is no longer conected, and not letting the turbo make boost,
Or, it could be...
It could be a hundred things, Me's thinks its time to start doing some elemenation
First, check each and every inlet hose, Especially any that were close to the fire, or have any sharp bends in them
IF they all check out, I would start checking vaccum lines
If they all check out, I would start checking the harness near the firer location
If all that checked out, I would then do a compression test on all te cyls.
If that checked out, i would do a leakdown test
And if that all checked out, then the only thing left for it to be is a bad turbo seal.
Whick luckily enough is pretty easy to fix.

 

why not just do a boost leak test and first see if he has one rather than checking every stupid thing.

 

yes there are a ****load of things that i could be but... if he can hear the boost coming out and it's not blowing off... it has to be escaping somewhere between the manifold and the uicp. but if not than yea, start checking things off that list.

 

This is the most sane thing to do and the first thing one should do for a turbo car.

 

Thanks guys. I will do a boost leak test and compression test. But where can i get that compression test? And about how much is it?

By the way, i just drove it, and at first i had no loud hiss when "hitting" it a little bit. It spooled up fine. So i did it a couple other times, and then it started to do it.
(i wish one of you guys lived in my area, LOL!)

 

ummm, go to auto-zone, and buy a compression tester,
start with the number one spark plug, pull it, start the car, and see what the gauge reads
re-install number one, and repeat with the rest.
Numbers should read (and guys correct me if I'm wrong)
between 135lbs, and 165lbs.

Oh,I totally agree with you guys, thats why I said to check all the air inlet hoses first. Could just be one loose, and that would say alot of trouble.

 

The minimum is 142.. below that you need a rebuild. Anything above is acceptable.
