bov spooling

so with my big 16g my wastegate used to be open all the time. my mechanic changed it to where it only opens when its supposed to. does this change the sound of the spooling. i hear all these dsms reving and you can hear the turbo. on mine i can rev it up and it seems like my doesnt spool like theres. only when im moving can you hear it. i would like to hear the turbo when reving the engine as long as it doesnt cause any performance issues. i tried searching for this and i could only find peeps wanting a loud vented bov. all the pros out there help me im stuck. thanks

Your engine has to build boost before you will hear it, and it only builds boost when the engine is under load, IE, moving.

If you rev it up to like 6k you should hear it though.

You dont hear a recirculated BOV anyways. And when you rev it like that you are only building like 6lbs of boost, so its not going to be loud, especially recirculated.

ok well thats what i thought would the wastegate being wide open all the time affect the sound when reving? i just here these turbos spooling at low rpms just when they are reving and not movine. im just envious. so theres really not any way for me to get that even with upgrades? or modification?

your wastegate should never be open all the time. Its supposed to only let air when youve boosted and the rest of the air is excess and therefore runs though the wastegate rather than the turbine. alot of these cars that rev it and get all that sound may also have a vented wastegate which alot confuse with spoolup but is actually the wastegate dumping to atmosphere.

the wastegate is that loud? hmm that is probably what im thinking of. how would you get that effect upgrading your wastegate and turbo and ic pipes?

RE: bov spooling

are you running an internal or external wastegate. Im gonna assume internal which there are ways to make the wastegate VTA but it would require a new o2 housing like this
http://www.slowboyracing.com/estore/...593&page=1

which routes the wastegate out of the exhaust as opposed to the stock. If its external then it depends on how its routed currently

ya its internal would anything attach to that tube coming off the housing?
