Default Bubbles in coolant

Hello all, newbie here. I have a '99 eclispe with a new tranny. I had the head reworked.New head bolts , trued surface and reworked valve seats. The engine fired right up and after a few minutes noticed bubbles in the coolant . The car tries to overheat but quickly recovers and gauge comes back to halfway mark. I guess my question is , how do you know where a crack is. Do you think it is in the block. The engine runs great . No water at exhaust pipe. Any opinions welcome.head was torqed to specs per haynes manual

Who knows where the crack is. You need to perform a leakdown test.

Could be a crack in the bottom end, the head gasket, anywhere.

Default leak down test

Is there somewhere on this forum that explains how to do this. I would believe the block is cracked, but how to determine this is my question. Also, I have replaced the thermastat

bubbles in coolant was simply not getting all of air out of the system, further compounded by having a bad new thermastat. Temp still cycles slightly over half way of indication but very quickly recovers. I did check the DSM 1000 question answer page and seen questions reguarding warm start issues but I have a cold start issue. Starts great when warm, Takes two or three attempts to start cold. Throttle boby was removed and cleaned when I reworked the head. Fuel filter is new. Any replies greatly appreciated. I said it was a 99 but is a '96 2.0 NT
