Default Buy it or no ?

Hi guys, first i wanna thank ya all for your answers and your profesionalism.
I rode some posts and people can really count on you when in need.

Here is the point. I felt in love with eclipse spyder gs 96. It has 120000 miles on it and the dealer aks me for 4900 . This is the best price i can get it for.
It looks in a good shape, even if the radio and the inside mirror manual mechanism part must be changed. The motor runs strong and the manual trans shifts good.
I know that the car has a bunch of miles so i m a bit scared to take this car. Is it it the right price for it ? Also i don't want to put to much on it fixing everything.
Please guys, tell me what you think.
Thanks

First off how much do you have to work with? Financing or cash straight up? Sounds like a good deal but check EVERYTHING over twice. Pedal play clutch and whatnot. Open the hood listen and look under the frame. See if they'll let you look at the brakes and whatnot.

I took the car in a ride and everything looked fine. When i opened the hood, it looked ok, but the fact that there was a mix of dust and oil on the header and the block under it. The motor was dirty and looked like they didn't wash it for a while. I don't know if it's normal or no.

well i think for that kinda money you could get a gst(turbo) which is alot faster and you would fall in love with it if you ever drive one imo

yes, but doesn't the gs-t have more problems ? Even more with that mileage ? Generally, is the eclipse reliable at that mileage ?
Thanks for sharing your experience

first after a small test drive take off the oil cap and check for any white stuff. (signs of blown head gasket), because those cars love to do that. To me the price seems alittle steep. If you find that the car is in good shape, and you want it, id try getting it a bit lower. Maybe try and find one online for sale and get the price and show them that its not worth what they are asking because personally i dont think that thing should be more than 4k.

The messy engine is just from not keeping it clean and from being old. Another thing in the test drive i would listen for is bad suspension of bumps and sqeeking brakes.

Really the safest way to know how the car is, would be to have a mechanic take a look at it first. If they tell you that you cant bring it to a mechanic then thats when you might want to walk away

I disagree with the messy engine being from a lack of cleaning. Depends how and were the mess is. Take a good look if it's black, greasy, grime then look for a possible oil leak. Rust= coolant leaks. A messy engine can be a quick way to point out there are engine problems.
