Default Catalytic Converter Question

when I bought my car, it didnt have a cat. so the dealer put on a universal cat to make the check engine light go off. Im sure this is killing performance, and it also sounds like bees in a can...what kind of options do I have?

I dont know who told me, it wasnt on here, but they said that if I took the cat off, I would need an external wastgate so boost wouldnt go to high, or something along those lines. true or false?

is there a downside to having no cat besides the check engine light always being on?

gotta change back to cat when its time for emissions. Is that a fact that the CEL is always on with no cat? That would really really bother me.

You can run your car without a catalytic converter and still prevent the CEL light from coming on. You can get a pipe with a bung for the 02 sensor. Then purchase two 18mm anti spark plug foulers and drill one of them out. Screw them both into the 02 bung and then put the oxygen sensor in and POOF!!! ...no light. I've done this on my Evo 9 and it cost me 3.99 for the anti foulers. If you would like I can post pictures tomorrow and show you.

you d probably just get used to the check engine light being on that you wouldnt even notice after a while. But like they all said there is actually a gain with no cat (less restriction to flow)

Id rather my dash have no lights other than the gauges. Its little things like that, that bother me. And my CEL has been on for a couple weeks because i need a new o2 sensor. And it still bothers me..........a LOT

It gets really annoying answering "why is your cel on?" over and over
