Default check engine light

Oldmansgs, could you please e-mail me with the code chart: jessagriffin@aol.com

I would really appreciate it. I've had such trouble with mechanics (probably because I'm "a helpless female"), and would love to be able to diagnose/fix these problems, myself. I've taken basic automotive courses, but they never covered any specifics (just the typical, brakes, fluids, and that sort of thing). With the code chart, and the directions you gave (above), I might save myself both time and money... and might decide to keep my Eclipse.

I sent you an e-mail at the address you provided, will help you if i can. It's so easy to check your problem codes on first generation eclipses that even a "helpless female" can do it.Just kidding, you seem more willing to work on your own car then most guys.Just take things one step at a time and it won't seem so overwhelming.</P>

<IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0">Okay,the old man is back with info. for all you people with that damn check engine light on!!! I found a site that you can visit and it will show you how to do the diagnosis yourself.I guess you can check up to 1994's with a volt meter and up to 1998's with just using the trouble light on the dash.If you still are confused i'll try and help you further.Just go to www.troublecodes.net and click on pulldown menu for trouble codes, select mitsubishi and your on your way.Your terminal is on side of fuse block under dash.It has a black vinyl cover over it and is about 1.5 inches high and about .5 inches wide.Hook your needle type volt meter up as shown with the key off and the meter set to read 12 volts(you will probably have to select something like the 50 volt D.C. scale)then turn the key to the on position but don't start the engine.Trouble codes will start immediately as described on website.Good Luck,I hope this helps some of you and saves you some cash !!!

So if i know the problem with my check engine light being on was that I did the same thing as mentioned in a previous post (screwed the cord from the gas cap underneath the gap, allowing air to get in), I should just wait for it to go off when it runs the next check? If I KNOW that was the problem and have &lt;30,000 miles on the car, should I still worry about other problems? I forgot to mention it's an '02. And I'm perfectly willing to admit I'm a cheap female who is too lazy to do any more checking unless I have to <IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>rush123</editID><editDate>37978.8100231482</editDate></edited>

<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">Hi rush123, Why don't you just unhook your negative battery cable for at least fifteen minutes, this will erase any and all stored check engine codes.System will be reset and computer will check for any continuing problems that you may still have.If light stays off then you no longer have a problem, and you won't have to wait for light to reset itself due to loose gas cap.You will have to reset your clock and radio stations.Hope this helps, Randy<IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">

My mitsubishi also has its engine light on. My mitsubishi has a V6 engine so my dad said that if i buy 'cheap' gas that can affect that engine light, is it true? my car has really low mileage and it was hardly driven before I got a hold of it so there can't be any major problems with it. Some one please Reply with an answer! Thanks!
