i have an oil leak near my oil pan area, the guy who changed my oil said that is common in 98 eclipses and that it was made with a cheap rubber gasket, now my question is if any of you guys know what that gasket is call and how much do u think it would be to get fixed

are you talkin about RTV? i think you just wannaput a really thin layer of RTV between the new seal and oil pan after you clean the surface and let it dry over night and install and your good to go. the RTV is there to keep the oil pan seal from slipping during install.

Yeah dude, i have a 97 Gst and my pan used to leak. It's called a Oil Pan gasket, and there like $10-15 at any parts store. They usually have the option of rubber or cork...I got the cork and some RTV sealent and it hasn't leaked yet, just make sure you dont over torque the panbolts and pinch the gasket!

Yep like what everyone else said it a engine oil pan gasket, remove the old one and use rtv. I heard the 4g63's dont use a pan gasket, they came w/ rtv from the factory.

Ive gotten a couple gasket sets in the past year, and they all came with a gasket for the oil pan.. If you take the oil pan off a car, it will have a regular gasket on it also.. Not the rtv.. Another spot that is known to leak, is the oil return line that connects to the side of the oil pan.

yeah a thin layer of it doesn't hurt to seal it better, but definately pick up the gasket, i prefered rubber.
