cutting out CAT?
Hey guys, I've got a cat-back system installed in my 98 eclipse gst but it is still relatively quiet, with a straight through muffler and resonator's cut out. I'm looking to open it up a little more. If I get the CAT cut out and put a resonator or straight pipe on in place of it will it sound good and also will i have any problems with the o2 sensor directly behind the cat, will my check engine light come on?
Has anyone done this?

RE: cutting out CAT?
lots of people do a cat delete. Lots. o2 sensor wont be affected, but anyone driving behind you with the windows open or the top down, is going to get a special surpise[sm=icon_rofl.gif]
My friend has a civic hatchback, and on the day he did his cat delete, we went driving. At the time i had a rabbit convertable with the top down. WOW it smelled so bad when he would floor it in front of me.

So what exactly happend when you remove the cat?

you're not burning any extra fuel in the air, that wasnt burned in the engine. its for emissions.
and btw, try not to weld the straight pipe on. Make it so you can just bolt it on, because when emissions testing time rolls around.....yikes.

RE: cutting out CAT?
Thanks for the info. There is flanges on both ends of the stock Cat so I'll still use those. incase I want to put the cat back on. I'm from apart of Canada where this is no emiisions so we dont need a CAT. Are you sure there wont be any problems with the rear o2 sensor and the ecu? I dont want a check engine light. And will it give me a louder tone and better performance???
