Useful... not mandatory.

However, a wideband is mandatory : )

Depends on how often your check engine light comes on and how hard it is to get to a store like Advance Auto Parts to have it checked or turned off. Units on e-bay cost 25 to 50 bucks. I spend $90 to have a shop tell me my O2 sensor was bad. I replaced the sensor just to have the light come back on about two weeks later.

Bought one on e-bay and found that the second 02 sensor was bad. Figured I saved the price of the logger a whole bunch of times over now that we have the Eclipse. Light has gone on about 3 times since we got the car. Logger was able to tell me exactly what the issue was and if it was a serious issue.

Besides, your friends who are all driving around with the check engine light will love you.

a datalogger isnt gonna cost more than $100 total. So to me, yes it is worth it. You can log everything that goes on with your car
