Default dead 2g

i own a 99 eclipse gs, or i should say i owned, two days ago, wednesday march 28 i got rear ended by a ford explorer and they completely totalled my car outbut i found a 95 talon gsx w/120k miles, evo big 16g, i think it was 255 injectors, 3.5" apexi exhaust from exhaust manifold back, and the interior is almost perfect, no cracks in any of the glass, but the passenger front fender is damaged, the rear passanger side is damaged also and the paint is crap. and im havin a compression check done on the engine before i buy it definately. worth 3k??? or does anybody know any questions i should ask him about the car that i didnt mention?

3K for a 95 Talon TSi AWD (or do you mean Eclipse GSX?). Not worth it IMO. I think you mean 255lph fuel pump also
Standard questions apply, to include the timing belt, oil leaks, lower ball joint recall, fluids=tranny, transfer case, and rear diff. How good is the motor running? Does it have lifter tick? If not, ask why. Chances are that he used some Lucas oil to cover something up.

yea 3k is pretty low for an awd. something seems fishy there, I would steer clear of that car. My guess is its beat to hell and your getting into more problems than you know

2g turbo'd cars are good cars... IF you take care of them. on the other hand though, if you don't take care of them, it's like digging an endless hole that you can not dig yourself out of until you have replaced everything in the engine compartment... unles the guy is just really eager to get rid of the car in a major hurry and/or the damage you mentioned is really bad.

Just listen to it run.. And if you can have him drive it and drive behind him, and tell him to get on it harder so you can see if its blowin smoke out the back bad.. Also look underneath to see if there is any oil dripping off anywhere.. The top usually gets cleaned by people, but they dont usually take the time to wipe it off on the bottom side of the motor

oh yeagood thinking advocate. Check the t-case seals, because thats one thing alot of the times will break if the fluids havnt been changed like they should.

When you open the hood, with the motor running, you should hear the head ticking, that's the lifters ticking. It's frequency goes up as the RPMs do. Some go away after the motor has warmed and the oil has a chance to lube everything up really well, but cold, most if not all with non-3rd gen lifters will tick (or new lifters of any gen). It's a different tick than injector tick too.

I was going to mention that if you were planning on a rebuilt, then, it won't matter anyhow. Make sure you get 3rd gen lifters though, they are less prone to the tick. There's more, but we'll go one step at a time

Hopefully the tick is coming from the head and not the crank
