So now that I have an E316g it is probobly time to start thinking about a downpipe, I will probobly go with a downpipe + highflow cat, I was just wondering if you have a test pipe on your car and you have an issue with it, when you take it into the mechanic will they refuse to work on it?

yeah they could....
i would stick with a high flow cat. you would loose maybe at the most 2HPwith a high quality high flow cat back compared to running a test pipe.
or if you really want to run a test pipe and they have a problem...just keep a cat laying around and swap it out

why would a mechanic refuse to work on it. That is retarded. There is no reason for them to do that. Even a dealership wouldnt refuse the work and money. Maybe a warrenty but that wouldnt matter in that case

yea i know in mass its against the law to have a test pipe and there is a hefty fine for having it. But ive never known a shop to lets say turn dow replacing a clutch or something because of it

Okay dont bother with the high flow cat, they are a crock of ****.
As far as a normal cat goes, there is a dyno vid of a full EVO III 16g setup with a 3" exhaust w/ a cat, and a electric cutout. The car gained 50whp with the cutout..... so TJ your wrong.
