Default EGR valve

I have a 96 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, it is throwing the EGR code. What does the EGR do if you just unhook and plug the vac lines at the solenoid that go to the EGR. Does it stay open and recirculate all the time or does it stay close and not recirculate at all. I ask cause I will eventually block off but dont have the time right now, so I would rather just unhook and plug the vacs for now. I will leave the solenoid plugged in after it is all said and done.

It will stay open. Remember, the egr itself has no electrical components. So, the code can be thrown because of faulty valve operation, a faulty solenoid, or a faulty MDP sensor.

Sorry I forgot to mention the light is not the reason I want to do this. The car just acts funny. You can start it and drive fine but as soon as you get to where you are going and shut it off for a little bit and try to restart it, it acts like its is flooded so I rev to about 3500 rpm and clear it out and it runs fine. Any ideas?

I had that problem when my car was running too rich. It would gas foul the plugs. So, essensially you have to burn it off by revving it, then it will run fine. If its running rich, and you have no aftermarket fuel modifications, then you have an air/boost leak after the maf sensor. An EGR valve that is stuck open can cause that by bleeding off air from the intake manifold, but there are a lot of other things that can leak as well. Do a boost leak test to see where the leak is before you start pulling your hair out replacing parts.

The egr valve would be closed w/ no vacuum lines connected. If it was open the car would stall at idle. Pick up and egr block off plate for $10.00 and be done w/ it lol.

If I install the EGR block off will that cause the car to fail emissions for inspection? I am having the same problem with my 97 Talon (420A) and had thought about just getting the block off but wasn't sure if I could still get through NY state inspections. Thanks.
