Default Engine swap from a 3000gt...

Hey, i have a 96 eclipse... i was just wondering the other day if i'd be able to swap a 3000gt turbo engine into my compartment... i have no idea if it would fit, or if it would, what kind of mod's would be necessary, such as engine mounts, transmission placement, that sorta stuff... so basically, my question is, can i put a 3000gt turbo engine into my eclipse, and if so, what years should fit my 96 model, and what sort of modifications would be necessary... thanks!

NO it wont. and beside the 4G63 Turbo motor is better. there are more eclipses out there that hit 10s and I have seen 9s one low 9. I have only seen a 3000GT hit in the 10s. there just to hard to mod. compared to the I4

Dude don't swap a different engine into your Eclipse, the 4G63 is an awesome engine you can boost it pretty high on stock internals(as long as you upgrade fuel system) which should give you enough power to shut up those stupid STi guys

yeah, i understand... but by the time i would even swap the engine, the engine would have over 100,000 miles on it... i dunno, it'll be a while before i do much of anything... i know i could upgrade this motor and make it fast, but if i get a more powerful motor and upgrade that the same way... i dunno... i guess i really dont know what im talking about haha, i'll admit it... i'll just have to see what other kinda feedback i get... thanks tho!

4G63 turbo motor is the turbo motor in the GST GSX Galant VR4 TSi turbo lasers and the EVO in all the cars except the EVO are rated for 210HP the 03+EVO is rated at 276HP.

The motor in the eclipse talon plymouth is the one I beleive would be able to swap. How ever you would need the tranny and ECU and harness from them. They are great motors (the best 4cyl out there IMO) they have been around since 1989 or 90 I think and if there still going in the EVOs then you know there doing something right.

Ill be honest with you it would be easier to not mod this car at all and save for a GST or GSX outright because the cost to do it to yours my be more money than to just buy the car itself. But if you do want to do a swap than its a good time for an all out build up of the bottom end and valvetrain while the motor is out of the car.

The 4G63 has put 1G eclipses in the 9s(not sure if there was even some in the 8s?) there are a few 03 EVOs running high 9s now with a built up 4G63 as well. the motor as the potencial but its kinda alot of work.

Please someone correct me if I put anything in here wrong. or add to what i have wrote THX

no, its not that the eclipse motor is better than the 3000gt motor, its that parts for it are cheaper. The reason eclipses are faster than 3000gts are because of an 800lb weight difference between the cars. 3000gt is fat. by the way, that motor will never fit in an eclipse anyway

The 3000GT block isnt as strong as the 4G63 as far a boosting goes. I was running 15 p.s.i and the fricking thing seized!!! But if you prep the block for boosting then the 6G72TT is far better at least in my opinion

THe 300GT cant be faster than the eclipse because of weight and haveing a V platform. there is no room to upgrade very much. they turbos are tiny and they just fit in there very tightly. how are you going to upgrade them? you can only upgrade to and extent before a bigger turbo wont fit
