Default General race tips.

Alright I'm looking for some general race tips, just from stop lights and 1/4 miles, no "track" stuff. Both automatic and manual tips please. I was also wondering if you could explain to me what double-clutch shiftings is, I'm more on how a car works not how you work it driving wise. Thanks for any help.

You may want to check the Street/Strip section. There are a lot of tips in there about lauching and such.

Double clutching is for downshifting into a turn usually.
1. You press in the clutch, pop the car in neutral.
2. Release the clutch (dunno exactly why)
3. Rev up the engine to where the lower gear at ur particular speed is.
4. Press in the clutch.
5. Put the car in the lower gear.
6. Release the clutch.
I understand why people should "double clutch," but I don't see why someone should release the clutch, just to rev up the engine. I guess it helps save the clutch life some. Anyways, the reason somone would want to double clutch: if you are decellerating into a turn, it doesn't allow the car to "jump around" while the engine is trying to catch up with the lower gear's higher rpm's. Oh, and double clutching like they say they are in Fast and Furious is absolutely not the thing to do when accelerating, just when you want to slow down, yet keep your momentum up. Get it? Got it? Good. :P As for any drag tips, I dunno, shift late and fast. Straight line racing isn't my cup o tea, give me a F-1 mega-twisty track, and I'll be happy.

when your accelerating, you wanna know exactly where your power band starts and stops, this will help you time your shifts better, 90 percent of the time you dont want to rev the engine to redline, cause by then your just loosing power and speed that you would have doubled by shifting into the next gear, i.e. - racing- i shift from 1st to 2nd at around 5k-55k rpm, then 2-3 is around the same, so on and so forth, every gear has a slightly different power range, about the only way to find these is trial and error, when you hit it perfectly youll know it..............
