GI needs swap help.
this car is my neighbor's.
just got back from a 15 mth deployment to iraq. my bud's '96 (he is still there) engine threw in the towel just before we left. as he didn't have time to pull it out, he had a "friend" remove it for him. an extream hack job insued, major hacking and just plain stupidity (wires and hoses cut up, not disconnected). he bought a jap spec turbo motor to replace it and his wife had it installed in the car. they ran out of money to complete the job and are missing parts to get it running (this just makes it more FUN).
the help i need is for a wire diagram from the ecu, to AND from the motor. i found a pdf shop manualon-line, it does not cover the '96, it's '97 on.
i do not have alot of info on the car, any help would be great. if you need info, pics, missing parts list, or anything else i can get it. thaks for looking.
happy motoring.

RE: GI needs swap help.
yes, the us-spec stuff.... i'm pretty sure they do not have the wireing specs for the '96 turbo jap-specmotor that now resides in the car. as the last motor was hacked out, the non-turbo us-spec (left hand drive type) engine harness needs to be modded to mate to the turbo jap-spec (right hand drive) motor/ecu now installed in the car.
i don't know alot about these cars, been working onjet engines for the last 14+years...not a complete moron
anyhelp would be great.

RE: GI needs swap help.
So the 96 was non turbo? Well you can't even get the turbo engine in the car because it is mounted on the wrong side.
Also, there never was any rhd eclipses, they were all built in IL, and they did so well that they shipped some to japan. I don't know what engine you bought, but there is no such thing as a jdm eclipse engine.
The wireing harness you are looking for is in every other eclipse out there.
Just so I make myself clear, you can't put the 4G63 turbo engine can not be put in the 420a non turbo engine bay.

I see at least one problem Tom, you're working with a turbo motor/ECU with the non-turbo wiring harness. The harness does not provide some of the sensor inputs that the turbo ECU needs. Is there a way for you to get your hands on the matching wiring harness that comes out of a similar vehicle (as the motor)? This will be one electrical nightmare for you if you can't.
Sebs, the Evo 4-9 4g63 can be put onto the 420a motor mounts.

So, Tom, if you could let us know about which motor you have in there because I'm a little confused about what your buddy has under the hood before and now. I could easily tell you to use the wiring diagram of an Eclipse 4g63 motor as they are in fact the same (with some different provisions here and there). But I don't know which motor you have as the only J-spec motor used in the Eclipse is a 4g63 and 4g64 (non-turbo and used on the Spyder), the other is a Chrysler 420a (nothing J-Spec about that one, even the ones shipped to Japan )
Thanks Tom

RE: GI needs swap help.
this is my neighbor's car, i'm talking to his wife so some info could be wrong. this is the info i have: 4g63, mtx, 1996 eclipse, 16g turbo, jap-spec. o2 sensor present but not installed, turbo hoses missing, blow-off valve broken; needs j-spec starter (?what's the diff?) and vac switches.
the new motor is under the hood, the old one is in the back. should be able to get some pics in the am, getting to dark and cold out now; and there's beer to drinkthanks for looking.

If it came turbo'd, then the motor blew and the J-spec motor was bought and swapped in, then that makes sense. Although, your neighbor bought a J-spec 7 bolt motor. The Cyclone intake manifold is also a pain since it's hard to find the actuators that work, but you can fashion your own "actuators" or solenoids. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/arti...-manifold.html
For this link, just add D S M T U N E R S. C O M...without the spaces
Unless, the US-spec 4g63 starters don't work, then there's no need for a J-spec starter. Just grab one from a junk yard. BTW, those motors are very similar to the 95-99 Eclipse motors. Both are 7 bolt cranks and heads are made for velocity over volume. In other words, longer runners over larger diameter runners and head ports. The BOV is simple, get a 1G BOV as they are known to hold up to 18psi without leaking...don't get the 2G BOV as it is plastic and leaks anything past 12psi. An EVO 9 BOV will work also since it is built like the 2G BOVs, but are metal like the 1G BOVs.
As for the other sensors, you'll have to take a pic of them so that we can help you designate their purpose and name.

more info.
the car came with a turbo, motor went bad, a replacement j-spec was ordered from Cali (4g63). the replacement is same year as car. the car has 2 starters, both atx, needs a mtx starter. turbo hosesthat are installed have a 98% hooptie rating andneed replacement.pics to follow.
