does all gst ecuneed a camshaft position sensor?

Yah i would assume so, or else it wouldn't know the firing order and when to fire spark and fuel thus not allowing the car to run. The 1st gen ecu didn't require a crank sensor but it still needed the cam.

so then does the nonturbo has the sensor also?

yes i think most all newer cars have a cam or crank sensor or both
