Gsx best yr?

RE: Gsx best yr?
the differences arent that big in terms of performance, just get whatever you cant find, what fits your budget, and what you like the looks of. 97-99 seem to be most peoples favorite for looks, but ive heard the 95 trannys are the strongest. 89-92 engines are the most reliable and strongest, but all 1gs have weaker trannys than 2g's

if the engines on the 1G and the 2G are the same, than can a 2G tranny work for the 1G? and if so, how much money would it cost me to swap that?

The best year over all would be the 92. It still has the nice 6-bolt motor but also you have the stronger 4 bolt rear-end. If your looking for just a sleeper/power house go with a 1G hands down. The 2G's look nicer? I guess........but there heavier, less room, CRANK WALK. Even though the tranny may be stronger, the money you will save buy getting a 1G you will beable to send the tranny out to get tuned up, or even get a nice jdm tranny. The 2G tranny does not bolt right up, but it can be done. The motor/tranny mounts are in different spots on the 2G compared to the 1G. Its not worth the aggravation and money to put a 2G tranny in. The 1G tranny can take the abuse though, dont think its a ****ty tranny. Honestly dont make it a selling point, see if you can test drive a few different gens to see what you like. I know it may be tuff to find them, it would be worth it.

Not true 92 it still sported 6bolt, also in the second gen 7 bolt they changed the bottom end oiling resulting in the crankwalk problem. You really dont have to stress about it if you know enough about it to catch it in the early stanges and rebuild.
PS there was no 89 usa eclipse

7 bolt introduction was in late 92.
It has been reported that 'small rod' / 7-bolt flywheel motors (manufactured from later 1992 through 1994 on 1Gs) are more prone to crankwalk than 'big rod' / 6-bolt flywheel engines (manufactured from 1989 to early 1992). However, there can be no guarantees, since big block V8s and all other engines can also suffer from crankwalk.
