Are there any good head gaskets or do they all are the same. I'm planning on changing it and I want to get the best one. Also does any one where is the best place to take my car to get it changed. I live in NorCAl..

RE: head gasket
Cometic is a good name and is widely used in our motors.;)
Don't forget ARP head studs. |
RE: head gasket
Yeah ARP head studs are MUCH better than our head bolts. Titan seems to be a decent gasket too.

I drive a 96 GST. Hopefully this stops my overheating problem..

RE: head gasket
A head gasket won't stop your overheating unless the head is already warped.
You can go directly to the head if you feel that it is or just make sure that your cooling system really is filled up. A half full (or half empty) system, a pressure leak can also cause motors to overheat. There's a couple more variables in there but those are the main things to look for first. If you do feel like you have a warped head, look for coolant leaks around the head, the oil (and vice versa), check your plugs, have someone look at your exhaust when your driving (this requires the buddy system), and so on. |
RE: head gasket
also look at the bottom of the oil cap for white gunk. A compression test is also an easy way to tell if the head gasket is bad

RE: head gasket
also check your fan fuse/relay under the hood..I had one burn out on my old '97 Spyder GS before and it shot the temp. up...also try the thermostat, it's a cheap replacement with getting the kit for 20 bucks...Hopefully it's something minor like that than something like the head gone bad..Cometic are awesome gaskets though.

RE: head gasket
This is going to sound stupid but what do you mean by the engine being warped?
