track down some stock headers from ebay. what not passing that is making your headers illegal?

ebay is NOT a performance part store... why on earth would you suggest that? check howellautomotive.com or horsepowerfreaks.com or greddy.com, etc etc... just look around

notice that i said STOCK. in no way did i say get some performance headers from ebay, you'll pass.

now you have two options: one track down some stock headers and put those on untill your car passes, or two, buy a performance header that is legal

are you failing a visual test or is your car literally failing the smog test. Because i cant see just headers make you fail. you might have something else wrong

From the factory, they're not called headers.
Its an exhaust manifold. Has a catalytic converter attached to it.
Headers delete the primary cat.

You are right in some ways that headers replaces your primary cats; but only if your talking about long tubes because stock headers and mid-length headers will not replace your primary cats (when we're talking about 4 cat setup). Headers are normally associated with V6, V8, etc motors. This is because a typical header design eliminates the need of a downpipe. You would hook up your headers to a mid-pipe (X, H, Y). On my 01 cobra, I ran hooker long-tubes which eliminated my primary cats.

On the eclipse our setup is like this: exhaust manifold, downpipe, cat, catback/muffler.

Now back to the main issue, what exactly did the inspection station say or noted on your slip?
