HELP PLEASE! 97 GS-T TURBO PROBLEM?
hey guys, my friend just picked up a 97 gs-t, and we could have a problem, not sure though. When he rev's high, and lets off all the way to hit the brake, the car will hit too low of rpm's and stall out on the road, even if were at high speeds... i was just wondering if this is a problem, or if its just a side effect of having such a powerfull turbo...
It is not due to the turbo being to powerful. I would say to clean the injectors, check the battery connections and the alternator. Discount auto or Autozone can do a check for free on the battery and alternator.
Check the Idle Speed Controller on the Throttle body. It is there to allow air to pass as the car deccelerates and not stall the engine. There is also a switch on top of the TB across from the TPS sensor that tells the ECU that the TB is closed and to open the ISC. I have taken apart an ISC before and it can get carbon build up that will not allow air to pass through. Hope this helps.

Its not your convertor. I had/have this same problem. Was told the ISC. I tried to BISS adjustment and it helped a little but not much.

Besides if the BISS isn't the problem then adjusting it will only mask the true problem slightly but it'll still be there. You have to fix the true problem not use other things to try to compensate. You may be able to get it to stop stalling but it likely won't be good for the engine and the problem will only come back later. Check and clean the ISC. If it's idling fine then it's not the BISS though saying that it's idling at 1-1.5K RPM... Is that warmed up? If the engine is warmed and idling at 1-1.5K the your BISS is set too high already. Your idle should be siting around 800 RPM when the engine is warmed up. The 1-1.5K RPM should be only to warm the engine.
